Searching for the secret family recipe.

Last week a few of us headed down to Knoxville, Tennessee to present some work and give some of the new folks on the team a chance to learn everything there is to know about Bush’s Best® Beans. The trip included a visit to the corporate offices, the factory and the Bush’s Café & Museum.

We had a blast. A great recap for the veterans on the team, and educational for the rookies, we covered a range of subjects including their current manufacturing techniques, their incredibly high standards for quality and the rich history that has served as the foundation for it all. One observation we made was that most everyone within the company was on a first-name basis. While Bush’s has grown significantly since 1906, they all still treat one another like family.

It’s an honor to work for a brand that takes pride in both their people and their products. If you get a chance, stop by the Bush’s Café & Museum for yourself. It’s open to the public and the homemade pinto bean pie is outstanding. If you’re lucky, you might even have a chance to talk to Duke. Good luck with that. We’re all dog lovers and we couldn’t get a single word out of him.

The most important meal of your May

It’s that time of year again. Time for the National Restaurant Association’s annual gathering in Chicago. And that means it’s time for the annual Marlin Breakfast. Which also means it’s time for the annual Marlin Breakfast invite. Last year it was all about slow. This year it’s all about fast. So without further adieu we present the 2012 Marlin Breakfast invite. Starring Dennis Marlin’s head. Enjoy.

He’s back

But not in the scary, going-to-take-over-the-world-in-the-name-of-Skynet kind of way. Former intern Adam Bowlin has returned to us after a year-long stint at VSA in Chicago. And we couldn’t be happier. Okay, maybe we could be a little bit happier. But we’re still pretty stinkin’ excited. Welcome back, Adam.

Meet Gary Moss

Marlin is happy to welcome a brand new Marlinite to the Marlin family. Marlin. Gary spent the bulk of his career in Integrated Marketing Communications and has had senior level positions on both the agency and client sides of the business. He’s worked at JWT, SAATCHI and DDB on several Fortune 500 brands including; Quaker, Kraft, Kellogg, Proctor & Gamble, JC Penney, and Sears. He also worked as VP Global Advertising for Polaroid and Campbell Soup. A Detroit native and graduate of Michigan State University (the other MSU), Gary has lived most of his adult life in Chicago with stops along the way in Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and London. His interests include: tennis, fashion (he buys his wife’s cloths), and Detroit muscle cars from the 60’s (he owns a 65’ Mustang Fastback 2+2 (yeah, we’re jealous too). He’s also a big sailor and kayaker and is pretty anxious to get out on the lakes of MO. Have fun, Gary!

Oh, and welcome.

One Small Step for Pepperoni

You really got to hand it to the Japanese division of Domino’s Pizza. They go big or they go home. Yesterday plans were announced to open the first Domino’s restaurant on the moon. Thus catering to the much under served lunar dining community. The move, which sent shockwaves through NASA  is seen as a real blow to US dominance in the arena of space exploration. A serious shift in priorities is expected to ensue. One unnamed source within the US Space Agency is quoted as saying, “Today, we stand defeated in the race to bring crappy fastfood pizza to the universe. We really dropped the ball on this one. We’re out there looking for water on other planets and these guys are serving up hot, fresh pizza on the lunar surface. We hear they’re even going to offer flavored crusts and boneless chicken wings!” This is a sad day for the US Space Program. Not since Sputnick have we been caught so far behind in the space race.
